A. Choosing Our Focus - Training the Heart Over the Mind
-
The curriculum used by affiliates has been developed and tested in the context of Eagle Christian College and has proven to be very successful in achieving its objectives. Eagle-Lion has purposely chosen an accreditation plan by God’s presence and recommendation of the Apostolic Counsel for Educational Accountability (ACEA).
-
We realize that public non-Christian accreditation would be directing our focus as a school over the period of years. The Lord has cautioned us to carefully choose our focus. We could focus on academic accreditation, or we could focus on training our students in continuous interaction with the Holy Spirit and with practical Christian living. We would reap the fruit of whatever focus we chose. Whatever we focus on we give attention to, and whatever we give attention to, we become.
-
After prayer, we received the witness of the Holy Spirit to become practical in our curriculum and train our students in learning to live out of interaction with the Spirit of Almighty God. The results have been great, as hundreds from our congregation and hundreds of other churches have enrolled in our Equipping School program.
B. Choosing our Focus - Training the Heart and the Mind
-
It seems almost impossible to avoid the pendulum swing of first ignoring the Spirit, and then, when discovering it, ignoring the mind in favor of the Spirit.
-
We believe that God has given us both our hearts and our minds so that we can use them both. We do not feel that either of them is to be left idle. Therefore, while we do feel that Christianity is first a heart-to-heart relationship, rather than a head-to-head relationship, we also feel that the mind is to be used to its fullest in seeking understanding that will support the perceptions of the heart. Therefore, we are committed to intensively training both the heart and the mind in this unique blending of curriculum.
-
As you examine our curriculum, you will discover our commitment to exploring heart realities, while using up-to-date information to assist us in understanding the experiences of our hearts.
C. Balanced, Integrated and Biblically Based
-
Samuel established schools of the prophets (1 Sam. 19:20) and raised up men who could speak the voice of God to the land. We also aspire to equip men and women to be Holy Spirit led in their ministries. We stress knowing the Bible, walking in holiness, hearing the voice of God, and flowing with the power of God, because we believe that these four areas comprise the expertise possessed by the men and women of God in the Bible. In this manner, we seek to provide our students with a balanced wholeness, enabling them to experience the release of the power of God through their lives. Our core courses of Bible and Spirit-filled Living is required of all graduating students and is designed to bring each student to personal strength and maturity.
1. Overview of Majors
-
-
In addition to the required core courses, each student chooses one of our majors such as: Apostles, Business - Marketplace Ministry, Counseling–Discipling, Evangelism Outreach, Expository Bible Study, Family Life, Helps Ministry, Intercession, Leadership Development, Minstrel-Music and Arts, Prophetic Ministry, Teachers or Women in Ministry. Each major is designed to develop skill in the area of ministry God has laid on one’s heart. It consists of approximately nine courses of specialized training.
2. Certificates and Diplomas
-
-
We offer a certificate, and associate, bachelor, etc. diplomas in each of these thirteen areas. A Certificate of Practical Ministry requires the completion of 32 training units of work. An Associate of Practical Ministry diploma requires 64 training units. The specific courses required for each of these levels of accomplishment is predetermined, except for the electives that the student may choose. A Bachelor of Practical Ministry Diploma requires the completion of 128 training units. A Master of Practical Ministry Diploma requires the completion of 192 training units. A Doctor of Practical Ministry Diploma requires the completion of 256 training units. Graduation ceremonies are held where those who are graduating from the certificate and diploma programs are honored. Through the laying on of hands and prophetic presbytery ones are set aside for ministry
3. Our Student Body - A Typical Profile
-
-
Our typical student is married, has children, holds a full-time job, and serves in a church. Our students range in age from 16 to 82, with the average being about 30. Educationally, we have high school dropouts (with an equivalency diploma), men and women with doctorates, and every range of degree in between. Our average student takes one or two courses per semester.
4. Our Classes
-
-
One training unit courses meet once per week for six weeks. Two training unit courses meet once per week for eleven weeks.
5. In-class and Mentoring Programs
-
-
Our full-time students are completing the diploma program in two years by taking four of five courses per semester. They combine in-class instruction with mentoring instruction. Our mentoring education program allows a student to take any of our classes at home and meet personally with a mentor once every three or four weeks. The student receives texts, assignments, and grades. Thus, a full-time student may take two or three courses in class and two by mentors at the same time.
-
-
Most of our students are only taking one or two courses per semester. We feel this may be wisest, as it is practically impossible to bring about life change in more than one or two areas in a three-month period.
6. Bible/Spirit-Filled Living Core
-
-
Traditionally, Bible colleges offer a core in Bible/Theology, indicating their emphasis on academics and doctrine. Our new focus necessitated the development of a new core. All of our courses have a biblical, practical and spiritual content in them, bringing students to consecutive life changes as they grow in Christ. We understand the mind to be created by God to serve one’s spirit, so we desire to train the spirit first and the mind second. The mind is a servant to the spirit, not a god over it. We believe this is an important emphasis for the church and equipping school to realize.
7. “Teaching” and “Training”
-
-
A second emphasis in our program is the use of “training’ rather than simply “teaching.” The Greek concept of education was to teach facts. The Hebrew concept was to train. We seek to go beyond the imparting of facts to the transformation of lives. Our material is designed with this emphasis, and our grading system encourages it by requiring personal application papers in lieu of final exams in most of the courses. We are seeking to impart life changes to our students, not merely theology.
8. Area 1: Experiencing God’s Word - The Bible
-
-
In Area 1: Experiencing God’s Word - The Bible, our students take V102 Old Testament Survey, CC107 New Testament Survey, reading systematically, intellectually and devotionally through the entire Bible, using a guided self-discovery process and allowing God to reveal directly to them the great truths of life. Thus the student is not receiving secondhand theology, but establishing his own within the context of the Body of Christ (his classmates) and under the oversight of a shepherd (his instructor). In this manner, the student receives a foundational knowledge of the Word of God. Many students graduate from Bible colleges and Christian liberal arts colleges and have never been required to study through the entire Bible. We feel this is an inherent weakness of many Christian institutions dedicated to preparing men and women for ministry.
-
-
We place strong emphasis on each person studying through the entire Bible, listening to hear what God desires to speak to him/her. The Bible is not studied primarily academically, but prayerfully, asking God to “...give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, praying that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know...” (Eph. 1: 17-18). Thus, the Bible becomes a living Book in which God speaks to His people.
-
-
CC101 Bible Study Methods is a basic course to teach students to use concordances, word-study books, and basic Bible study.
-
-
CC100 Foundations for Christian Living takes the student through the six foundation doctrines listed in Hebrews 6:1-2, using guided self-discovery and personal application.
9. Area 2: Building Relationships
-
-
Area 2: Building Relationships is the outworking of the other areas. As the student experiences the Word, walks in holiness, and senses the movement of God, he will find the supernatural power of God flowing out of him. The most important thing in life is God’s Presence. CC745 The One Thing - Prayer, is a beginning course in prayer.
-
-
What is the local church? What are personal giftings? How do I know who I am? The purpose of the V504 Discovery course is to introduce newcomers to the local church, which is truly a process of discovery.
-
-
Life is about relationships. Jesus said the two main commandments were about loving both God and man. The course, CC410 Friendship Factor, is about developing friendships - a noble task.
-
-
The course S506 Life Groups brings an understanding of the purposes and structure of small groups. Building small groups is a God-given way to build relationships and responsibilities into the body of Christ. Thus, these are the building blocks where relationships and responsibility are grown.
-
-
These courses focus on bringing the student to the point of being naturally supernatural, as Jesus encouraged us to be in John 14:12:
-
-
“Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to the Father.”
-
-
These courses along with our core courses are indeed desired by all students, bringing them to personal strength in Almighty God. The student need not take all of these core courses before beginning his major. He may intersperse courses from his major as he goes along.
10. Area 3: Christ in Me – Life of Character
-
-
Building on the student’s knowledge of the Bible is Area 3: Christ in Me – Life of Character. As his/her knowledge of the Word increases, there will be an increasing desire to set himself/herself apart unto God more fully.
-
-
A required course in personal holiness designed to encourage and strengthen in various aspects of the sanctification process, CC201 The Fruit of the Spirit, is based on Galatians 5:22 and covers love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
-
-
We sometimes seek for significance by trying to meet certain standards or by seeking to get others approval. The Christian realities of justification, reconciliation, propitiation, and regeneration are studied to experience real significance in Christ Jesus through the course CC205 Search for Significance.
-
-
A third course in this section is CC207 The Ten M’s - Growing the Person, a course which requires the demonstration of ten biblical character qualities within the student’s life.
-
-
We also strongly recommend that each student takes either CC451 Restoring the Foundations or CC452 Healing the Broken Hearted. There is cleansing and healing of spirit in these classes.
11. Area 4: Holy Spirit Awareness
-
-
From the holiness of Area 3, we move on to Area 4: Holy Spirit Awareness. By this we mean developing an ability to sense God through clearly hearing His voice, seeing His vision, and sensing His burden. We believe every person needs to develop this ability, whether he is a pastor or a homemaker. Before beginning this series, we require a student to build a firm foundation in his life by first taking at least two courses from the 100 series (Bible) and one course from the 200 series.
-
-
Thus he has a solid foundation to use in testing the voice and vision of God.
-
-
CC302 Hearing God’s Voice trains students to hear the voice of God and see His vision.
-
-
Another course, PI305 Releasing the Prophetic Word, is a deeply practical course which helps the student to sense and release verbally prophetic words and visions.
-
-
In our pivotal course, CC304 Ministering Spiritual Gifts, we study how to receive and be sensitive to the Holy Spirit through practical application. Every student must take this training!
D. Offering This Training Program to You!
-
Since we believe there is a hunger and need for this type of church-related Equipping School all around the world, we are making available to churches everywhere our program, allowing you to personalize and copy our catalog, copy our syllabus, and purchase materials from us. You are also to purchase published texts from your local Christian bookstore or directly from the publisher. We will give you assistance in the initial establishment of your equipping school program.
-
We recommend that you take a name for yourself to give a community-wide context. It is assumed that you will choose either your own church plant or other suitable facilities for your “campus.” You will, of course, need to prayerfully choose an Equipping School President, Dean, and instructors from the gifted teachers and administrators in your community and translocal ministries. Training occurs primarily in teacher-student and student-student interaction. Thus, we believe that translocal instructors and local teachers from your community should provide the instruction.
E. A Constantly Expanding Curriculum
-
We encourage our colleges to send to us their suggestions for improvement of existing courses, as well as any materials they would like us to consider in the development of new courses. We ourselves are constantly examining curricula from all around the world, seeking to find the best available material, so as to continually improve and expand our course offerings. Our goal is to gather together the finest curricular materials available in the world today and make them available to Eagle-Lion equipping schools.
F. Committed to Constant Change
-
We are committed to constant growth and development. We believe that God is restoring truths that have been lost to the Church for many generations, and that as they are restored, all of us must be willing to receive new insights from the Word of God. Even though change often results in personal stress, it is better than the alternative. When we stop growing, we begin to die.
